Polydactyl Maine Coon

15 April 2022

What is the difference between a polydactyl and a classic Maine Coon? The classic Maine Coon, like any other cat, has a standard number of fingers, 5 on the front paws, and 4 on the hind legs.

And polydactyly is a natural mutation characterized by the appearance of extra fingers.

In the breed, this is not considered deformity or marriage. Polydactyly is a fairly common deviation. It is officially registered by international felinological organizations. Polydactyls cannot participate in exhibitions – because it is still considered a deviation from the breed standard. But they can be used in breeding.
