Maria was awakened by a doorbell in the morning. It was 8 o’clock. Reluctantly, she got out of bed, threw on a robe, and went to open the door. Her best friend Nika was standing on the doorstep. “Hey, why are you still sleeping?” Nika said as she walked into the apartment.
“Let’s go to the kitchen and have some coffee,” Maria said. “That should wake me up. Why are you up so early?” Nika replied, “Masha, I wanted to visit my parents today. It’s been a while since I last saw them. Can you drop me off at the train station?” “Of course, you didn’t even need to ask,” Maria quickly tidied up the dishes. “Get ready quickly, or we’ll be late for the bus.”
Maria rushed into her room, took out a pair of jeans and a gray tank top from her wardrobe, and quickly fixed her hair. “I’m ready, we can go,” she said. On the way, the friends fantasized about their future careers and how they would earn a good living after finishing their studies. Lost in conversation, they arrived at the train station. Maria said goodbye to her friend and watched the bus disappear from sight. She then leisurely walked along the path towards home.
In the distance, she saw a little kitten wandering from one person to another, but no one paid any attention to it. Everyone was occupied with their own thoughts. One man paused, and the kitten let out a pitiful cry, but the man didn’t even notice it. Maria observed the kitten with interest. It moved aside, crawled under a bench, and curled up in a ball. Its tiny body shivered.
Maria approached and tried to pick up the little one to warm it up. Instantly, it bristled and hissed at her. At first, Maria was surprised by the kitten’s behavior, but then she realized that it must have been mistreated and had lost trust in anyone. She gently stroked the kitten and slowly lifted it into her arms, pressing it against her chest. The little one trembled like a leaf and let out a mournful cry.
Maria took the kitten to a clinic, where all the necessary procedures were carried out, and she was informed that it was a purebred Maine Coon. She brought the kitten home, fed it warm milk, and bathed it the next morning. She wrapped it in a towel and placed it on the couch. The little one crawled onto her lap and curled up, falling asleep. Maria was afraid to move, so as not to wake the kitten. “While you’re sleeping, I’ll think of a name for you,” she whispered. “Look at your beautiful red fur with a white patch on your chest and white paws. And your tail, so fluffy. I think the name Anfisa suits you.” Anfisa grew up to be a large, calm, and quiet cat. Her favorite game was chasing a laser pointer. She loved to run after the little light. Anfisa found a new home and a loving owner.
